This summer, Dave decided to invest in a nice road bike. It has been such a wonderful thing for him to exercise, and for basic transportation too (nice for me to have the car too :) .
Since it has been getting warmer, he decided that he could probably start riding his bike to school. So yesterday he did, and parked his bike at campus all day. He has never had a problem doing this before. When we were getting ready to leave campus, we went to go and pick up his bike. Dave noticed something funny about his wheels and chain. The chain had been knocked off the wheel, and the wheels seemed to be off in their alignment. Then he noticed that his wheels were different! Someone had taken off Dave's bike tires (not just the tubes) and replaced them with different road tires! He couldn't believe it! He decided it had to have been a BYU student with a road bike, because first of all, who would go around with bike tires in their hand, suspiciously looking for nice tires to steal? It must have been someone who usually parks their own bike near Dave's bike, and had noticed that he had quality tires. Dave wasn't super mad, but he was just really weirded out. It is always a strange, uncomfortable feeling when you realize you have been taken advantage of. It's like when someone hacks into your facebook and spams all your friends, or your email address, or when someone breaks into your car. It's sad to think that it was probably a BYU student who gave their word of honor that they would be honest. We hope that whoever it was will ponder a little bit about their decision and maybe make a change for the better. Who knows, maybe they'll feel guilty and change them back. I guess we'll just see what happens.
Thats so weird! I hope he gets them back. I had my bike stolen at BYU once.
ReplyDeleteSad day! Also sad that they have to post "high theft area" in the locker rooms at BYU.
ReplyDeleteI suppose there are thieves in the world to help us learn a little more patience and charity. Sorry to hear about that Dave. Your bike in heaven will have wheels made of diamonds and nerds ropes because of your adversities here.
Oh man! Sorry about that! Look around at the bikes near yours to see if you can find the tires. Would you be able to recognize them? We had a friend who had a bike stolen, and she checked the bike rack every once in a while, and there it was, a few months later!!
ReplyDeletebummer. jeffrey's nice bike got stolen off our front porch in provo. it was in the middle of the day and we had only left for 30 min. when we came back our lock had been cut off and it was gone. it was so frustrating. our neighbors had been home too and they felt so bad they hadn't noticed. sorry you lost your tires. weird that they went to the trouble to give you theirs.
