I feel like I (and Dave...) have been doing random posts, and that I've not done a very good job of talking about our life. So, here's an unnecessarily long update. And to make it better, absolutely no pictures. None at all. There is a very sad story behind that bit of detail there that I will explain later...my poor computer... :(
Dave and I have had a really great and crazy summer. We've been to Hebgen Lake, Cali, Paris (just Dave unfortunately...) Goblin Valley, and family cabins. We've made memories with friends and family that we won't soon forget. We moved out of our first apartment by the temple to a fun little place just a block or so from campus. We've been applying to med school, wondering where our next great adventure will be. We went to some really fun concerts of a few of the bands we've loved recently. Needless to say, we've been busy bees. We've also had a few dissapointments along the way, and things have been a little tight financially lately. I guess that's what happens when you're a student. One day we'll look back and think about what a great experience it was to learn how to be very frugal, and realize it taught us to not take things for granted. We're so lucky to have friends and family that have supported us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Dave is just finishing some essays for his secondary applications to medical schools. He found out a week or so ago that he has an interview at Rochester in New York! (That is where his brother Ben is going to medical school) We're happy to know that someone is receiving his application! Sometimes working with technology you feel like you're just sending your application off into space. As Dave put it, he already has the "checking your email" addiction that applying med students often get, because the med schools notify them of their decisions often via email. But anyway, we feel so grateful for the many people who have helped Dave in this process. We are both very aware that his application would not be what it is without the selflessness of our friends and family. THANK YOU!!! Dave is hoping to work for his prep course, Altius, in the fall. He'd get to tutor aspiring med students like himself to work toward the MCAT. We'll see what happens.
As for me, I'm still working on filling my schedule. Luckily, I recently got a job teaching art classes at Creativity Art Studio in Orem. It is a fun little place kind of like Color Me Mine, but with additional art classes in all mediums in the back of the store. I also have been given permission to use the space when I'm not teaching as my own studio. I painted there for the first time yesterday, and I think it is going to be great. I've also been working on paintings for people, and on my own art. I've had a few people employ me as a private art teacher, and doing that is definitely my favorite kind of teaching. I love focusing on the needs of just one person, and really helping them to make progress. It is also a lot of responsibility though at the same time, and a great challenge to find out what is best for them. It is really fulfilling to me. So, if you know anyone who wants to hire a private teacher, send them my way! I'd love to help them. I'm happy to be back in our old ward also. It's always nice to be a part of a community and to feel like you have friends that live close by. Serving can be overwhelming and time consuming, but it is always so rewarding.
One last thing before I finish...
We have a lot of dear friends setting off, or who have set off, on new adventures. We love you. We miss (will miss) you. You have changed our lives. We are excited for the places you'll go and the things you'll do. And most of all, we hope we will always be in each other's lives. Call us often, will you? Please? And maybe in about a year, we'll be somewhere near enough to visit.
Joy and happiness to you all.
We hope you're as close to DC as possible! If you're in the neighborhood, you guys are more than welcome to crash with us!
